Movie Night!

Saturday night, we babysat Camden and Emily so Steve and Brooke could go out to dinner.  We popped popcorn and watched a movie.  Uncle Matt had a great time with these guys and he even
liked the  movie too.  We watched "UP"

It is so fun having Matt home.  He just makes everything so much fun.  Wow!  can that kid clean.  He keeps my house in tip top shape.  He loads the dishwasher, vacuum's, and tidy ups all the time.  So fun having him around.  He hangs out with me all the time and it's great getting reacquainted again.

Happy he just got a job but sad it is in Rexburg and he'll be moving up there and starting classes on the block in February.  Sometimes I feel like  my life is a roller coaster.  I wouldn't have it any other way!

My Birthday. . .

I can't believe it is that time of year again.
I turned 53 on the 24th of January.
I love everyone else's birthday but I'm not
very fond of my own.
I guess I just don't really like the attention.
But, this year was fantastic!
My daughter and daughter-in-laws had a
birthday party for me.
I was touched by their thoughtfulness.
They brought all the food, did all the clean up
and I loved it with all my heart!

After work on Thursday, Wynn picked me up.  I was so surprised to
see him.  He took the afternoon off to be with  me.  Oh, so sweet.
He took me out to lunch and when we got home, this is what
the house looked like. . . .

Matt had decorated the house with all these hearts.  There were over 70 of them.  He hung them from the ceiling and each one had a personality trait of mine (his opinion) on it.  He used pictures too.  Oh,
it was so cute.  It just made me feel so special.  He didn't have any money for a gift so this is what he did.  I thought it was so cute.  It is so fun having him around.  He makes life so fun.

That night is when the girls did the party.  Dessert wasn't quite done so Wynn put candles in the jello salad and had me blow out the candles.  Camden and Emily  had to each blow out a candle.
Then the presents. . . Emily could hardly wait!  I got such fun stuff.  I even got some eye shadow that I have been wanting.  They just spoil me so much.
Natalie game me this darling teddy bear to add to  my collection.   It's in a hoody and reminds me of her.  Nat loves hoodies.
Sam and Hailey gave me all the fixings for cake pops.  I can hardly wait to try them.  We just might make them for  Activity Day next month. What a cute idea, I loved it.
Finally, the dessert is done.  Don't ask me to pronounce the name of this but Natalie made it.  It is a Finnish dessert.  Eggs, milk sugar. . . So yummy with strawberries and whipped cream.

Then, on Saturday, we went to Mom's and she fixed lunch for us to celebrate.  I just love  my Mom.  She always makes our birthday special.  I guess that is where I get it from because I always try to make each one of my kids birthdays special too.  I guess birthdays aren't that bad because I loved every minute of mine this year.  Makes getting older a little bit softer.  Thanks everyone for a wonderful day!

The Quilt. . .

This is pictures of Matt's quilt!
Isn't is so beautiful?
Our neighbor across the street made this quilt for Matt.
Before he left on his mission, Sis. Shewey promised
that a quilt would be waiting for him upon his arrival.
She wrote the cutest poem to go with it.
We feel so blessed to have such wonderful neighbors.

Family pictures. . .

Friday night we had a family game night.
We had pizza and just hung out.
Since we didn't get pictures at the airport,
We got some tonight.

We are just loving have our Matt home.
So much fun just being together.

Getting settled in. . .

 Thursday was a busy day.
We went shopping to get some clothes and a few other errands.
Life just isn't complete without a cell phone.
Yup, one of the first stops. . .
Kind of sad.

We visited Steven and Brooke and Matt got to meet Leasil.
Emily was pretty smitten by Matt.
 Matt and Steven.
(figuring out the phone)
Brooke drew this picture for Matt.
Isn't it just beautiful?
What a thoughtful gift, one he will cherish for a life time.
Under the picture it says:
Well done thy good and faithful servent.
Thursday evening we all went as a family to the temple.
I just love these dream days!
I had all my kids in the temple at the same time, together!
(Hailey couldn't be there because of their little baby)
But it still was a special time for us.
Something about standing in the celestial room and
seeing my family there just warms my heart.
It just makes everything so worth it!

I just felt so blessed and we could all feel
Heavenly Father's love for us.
Can't think of anything better than that.

HE'S HOME!!!!!

The banner is up and we are just waiting. . . .

At the airport waiting. . .
Still waiting but soooo ready. . .

There he is. . .
There is nothing like that first hug when they come
through the door.  It just felt so good to hold
my son in my arms.

 Dad gets the second hug.
 Still hugging me.
 Mobbed by the family!
 Everyone gets a hug!
Okay so only a few tears were shed but they
were happy tears!
 Adjusting. . .
 Hugging Sis. Shewey.
This is the bag Michelle King made Matt out of ties.
It is so cool!
A great memento from his mission.

I can't believe I didn't get a picture of Matt meeting Jenna for the first time.
It was so sweet.   It just felt so good to see him and feel of his
sweet spirit.

I can't believe we didn't take a family picture!
Too much going on and we just didn't do it.

But we got some cute photo's anyway.
 G.G. with Camden.
Showing her the game on the iPhone.
After Matt got home we came home and had
chicken noodle soup.

So fun just having the family together and getting caught up.

Before everyone left, Matt gathered us all together and explained how we
didn't have the opportunity to know him as a full time
missionary but what a wonderful experience it was.
He then lead us in a family prayer and we got to
once again feel of his sweet spirit as a
missionary.

At about 8:00 we went over to the church and meet President Jacobson there.
Oh, bitter sweet!  It was a great visit and it just felt so good!
I am so proud!

Emily's New Year. . .

Last Tuesday, I got to go to Emily's preschool
"Happy New Year"
Party!

They made hats and had noise makers.
The ball dropped and everyone cheered!
Then, we had a New year's toast with 7-Up.
It was so much fun!

Thank goodness for a darling little granddaughter
that let's me be part of her life.

I love you Em's
and
Happy New Year!

Last and final letter. . .

The following letter is from the member that Matt has been living with in Santa Barbara the past 6 weeks.

~
Monday, Jan. 7th, 2013

Elder Monk has been working full speed until this morning when he has taken "time out" on this P-Day to pack his bags.  He even has a meeting scheduled for this evening, and will go to Ventura for the departure meeting tomorrow.
I am sure that he is busy exchanging email with you right now, but I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sending such a fine young man to our area for missionary service.
He has become quite an accomplished cook, and also a house cleaner.  I recommend that you give him a chance to demonstrate these skills.
I have thoroughly enjoyed his enthusiasm and his spiritual insight.  In addition, we have had a lot of fun exchanging observations of wit on various subjects.
Please give him a big hug for me (and my wife Lola who is currently assigned to the various tasks in the Spirit World {aka Paradise}.  She went there 2 April 2010, and the first of "my missionaries" moved into our guest room on 24 April 2010).  Elder Monk was #18 and he will relinquish his place to #19, Elder Comargo (originally from Columbia).  No one can "take the place" of Elder Monk - he's a jewel.
Sincerely, your brother,
    Jerry Hyde

Here is Matt's last and final letter from the mission field.  Oh, my heart doesn't quite know what to do.  I love having a son in the mission field but my arms just want to feel Matt and give him a big hug.  I miss him so much but on the other hand I couldn't be more proud.  Actually,

I can't wait to see him!

~

Hi Mom!

Well, it’s the last one. Not too much to report, as I will be seeing
you soon. This was a good week! Pretty busy.

At church yesterday we had testimony meetings and we both bore our
testimonies twice! And brother Hyde got up and told how he invites us
to repent daily and then we do all right. Then he told the whole ward
I was getting "Transferred to Idaho" Haha! It was a good day.

I'm pretty much all ready to go, laundry all done, packed, etc... We
have an appointment with Hattie tonight, then bed, then off to Ventura
in the morning.

I have been thinking a lot of the last two years. I have changed so
much, and experienced so much. But I am, "Not finished, I'm just
getting transferred," as brother Hyde would say. He always says that
about his wife, who passed away about 3 years ago. She's in the spirit
world busily doing work that needs to be done, welcoming the new
comers, etc. (He also says decorating their apartment) I am still
Matt, but I am different. I feel like I know who I am, Know what I
want, and most importantly I know that I am a Son of God. I am so
thankful for the people I've met on this mission, the sacred
experiences I’ve witnessed, and who I’ve started to become. I am
humbled that God could use me as an Instrument in doing His work. I am
so thankful for each and everyday, no matter how hard, hot, or cold
they have been. :)

I am so thankful for your love and support (Everyone’s) and I honestly
can't wait to see you. If it weren't for you, I couldn't have done
this. I love you, and I will see you Wednesday!

I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the
Lord's church once again established on this Earth, preparatory to His
Second Coming, when He will reign in Power and Glory on this Earth.  I
know that we are led by a living prophet, and that this church and all
It’s authority was restored to this earth through the Prophet Joseph
Smith, ushering in the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, the last
and greatest Dispensation. I know that the Book of Mormon is a record
the was written and sealed by the hands of prophets, and I know that
it is true. I love our Savior Jesus Christ, and I know that He lives!

Love you!

Elder Matt Monk

Matt will be reporting his mission on Sunday, Jan. 13th.  Our Sacrament meeting is at 2:50 p.m.  We hope you all will come!  Dinner will be after at our home.

Hope to see you all then!

Babysitting Jenna. . .

Yesterday I got to babysit Jenna while Hailey went
skiing with Natalie and Cassidy.
What a fun day we had.
She is the cutest little girl.
I just loved snuggling with her.
She reminds me so much of Sam at that age.
It just filled my arms with so much joy.

She deffenently liked "fish" better than her applesauce.
Jenna even met a new friend.
He was just her size and he got the work over!
They rolled around together on the floor.
Oh, so cute.
I just love that little girl.

Wynn spent the day up at BYU-I meeting the new students
that will be in his ward this semester.
He was gone ALL day long.

Last night as I was just thinking about my day,
the feeling of gratitude came over me very strongly.
I feel so blessed to have two of the most amazing
daughter-in-laws that make the most amazing
mother's to my grandchildren.
I love them with all my heart.

LDS Missionaries Coming Home Mix

I saw this clip this morning and had to share.  Oh my, my heart is so filled with joy!
Just three more days.  I can hardly wait!

Yesterday, two different people brought belongings of Matts  to our home.
People that he knew from his mission who were traveling to this area and brought
things he wanted to keep but didn't have room for in his lugage  They each
said such kind things about our Elder Monk.  Makes me so proud once
again to be a missionary Mom.  And guess what?  He's Coming HOME!

Emily & Grandma time. . .

Last night, Emily got to come spend the night at
Grandma and Grandpa Monks'.
We had so much fun!
Emily wanted Rice Krispy's for dinner and that's
what she got.

We did puzzles and watched a movie.
We even made a poster for Emily to show
when her Uncle Matt comes home in just
4 days!!!!!
We had a ball.

By choice, Emily slept on the floor in the
Batman teepee.

P.S.  Guess what Emily wanted for breakfast?
You got it, Rice Krispy's!
Guess what she had?
You got it, Rice Krispy's.

I love you Ems!

New Year's Day

We went sledding on New Year's Day.
Not for very long, but we went.
It was cold, very cold I might add.

Hailey and Jenna ready to go!
Wynn and Camden ready to go!
Looks like Brooke is going to give Emily a little nudge just to get
her going!
Here is Jenna all decked out in her warm clothes.
Not so sure she liked going sledding.
But such a good sport about the whole thing.
Hailey and Jenna ready to go!
 What a cute little family.
Hailey and Jenna going down. . . .
What goes down, must come up.
Double duty for Natalie. . .
Away you go Emily. . .
 Emily with Emily and Camden.
After sledding we went to Leo's for a burger.
The kids love the toys and games there.
More than eating I'm sure.
(wish that would happen to me!)
 Enjoying dinner.

New Year's Day night, we watched Jenna while
Sam and Hailey went to dinner with some friends.
What a perfect way to end a perfect day.

Happy New Year everyone!
Hope this year is as good as the last one.
